Dave Martin's Rodeo

Back by popular demand will be the fast-paced, hard-riding excitement of a rodeo with Dave Martin's Bull Ride Mania.

The Rodeo, which will take place on Sunday afternoon, is a different kind of rodeo. In the typical rodeo, bull riding makes up about 20% of the event. As the name suggests, Martin's rodeo will be nearly the opposite with 80% bull-related events.

Wild cow milking and bull hockey will be two of the premier events at the rodeo. Wild cow milking challenges participants to gain at least a drop of milk from a running beef cow. Bull hockey is a group event, in which two teams vie for the attent8ion of one bull. The winning team is the first one to be chased through their goal by the bull. There is a $100 prize for each event.

Kids will have the opportunity to join the rodeo too, by entering either the sheep riding "mutton busting" or the calf scramble. Like bull riding, but on a smaller scale, sheep riding tests a child's endurance on a bucking, bouncing sheep. In the calf scramble, on the other hand, a group of children will chase a calf in hopes of being the first to snatch a ribbon from the animals' tail.

Cowgirl's barrel riding will also be featured but will be the only event featuring horses. There will be no roping events.

The calf scramble costs a small fee to enter and is the only event, which can be signed up for at the fair. All other events are free of charge, but interested participants must call Dave Martin before the fair at 717-334-7724. Contestants must leave their name, phone number, event desired and the name of the fair. Martin recommends calling no later than July 24 before the fair and the sheep are limited.

Bull Ride Mania provides all the animals with the exception of the horses for barrel riding and adheres to the American Professional Rodeo regulations concerning animal care.

The Rodeo on Sunday will be a lot of excitement, a lot of action and a lot of fun to watch.
