In the early 1990’s country music was continually changing with the introduction of a few new young faces. One of these was s singer/songwriter named Billy Dean. His debut album titled Young Man was a crossover success, selling right at a million copies. His first single, Only Here For A Little While, remained on the charts for 26 weeks, peaking at #2.

Billy’s second single, Somewhere In My Broken heart, brought a whole new audience to country music. It was his first #1 single as both singer an songwriter and won him The Academy of Country Music’s’ “Song of the Year” and Top New Male Vocalist Awards. It also won him a #7 spot on the adult contemporary charts, and a trip to the Grammy’s.

“People come up to me all the time and say, you know we never listed to country music until we heard your songs. It makes me feel like I’ve made a small contribution in expanding the fan base of country music,” states Billy.

During Billy Dean’s eight (8) year tenure at Capitol Records, he recorded seven (7) albums including a greatest hits package, selling over 4 million units. As a songwriter, Billy penned four of his top five hits including two #1’s. His success as a songwriter ranges from covers by major artists to theme songs for cartoons and television specials.

After leaving Capitol Records earlier this year, Billy decided to take a break from music to concentrate on acting. He has made several guest start appearance son shows such as “Lois & Clark, “Wings,” Diagnosis Murder,” “One Life To Live,” and hosted numerous television specials.

In 1998 Billy costarred with Crystal Bernard in the UASA cable movie, “A Face To Kill For.” It was the network’s highest rated movie that year.

In 1999, Billy costarred with Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee, Dolly Parton in the Lifetime Television movie, “Blue Valley Songbird,” combining his proven skills as actor musician, and singer.

Billy has several new music projects in the works and continues to open new doors as a multi-media artist entering the new millennium.

Craig Morgan
www.craigmorgan.com

Very few people have pushed life to the limits like Craig Morgan. An EMT (emergency medical technician) at age 18, a paratrooper at 20, and a member of the nation’s most elite armed forces a few years later, he is someone who has always packed a great deal of life into every moment. And with the same verve, he values every moment life has to offer.

“I don’t take anything – not one instant of the day – for granted,” says Morgan “I celebrate every moment.”

Raised in rural Kingston Springs, Tennessee, Craig enjoyed playing high school football and soccer, but his abiding love has always been the outdoors – three-wheeling, hunting, trapping and camping.

“My friends and I would load up our three-wheelers and leave home on Friday evening to go hunting or tapping,” he says. We’d come back Sunday night. In between, we’d just pitch a tent when we were tired, sack out, then get up and do it again.”

Craig’s father was a musician and played regularly in Nashville. Except for a few talent shows in high school and some youthful dabbling in songwriting, music would initially take a backseat in his life while he pursued another calling.

Like many young adults, Craig wanted to leave his rural roots behind him after high school. “I had seen the advertisement for the Army,” says Morgan, “and I saw it as an opportunity for adventure beyond my country home. On Friday I decided I was going to enlist and Monday I was being processed.”

When Craig was asked if he wanted to be airborne, he said, “Absolutely.” Morgan reflects, “I thought that meant that I was going to be flying planes.” Instead he was jumping out of them, which suited him just fine. “It’s pretty intense, he says with a grin. “It’s as big an adrenaline rush as you can get in that little amount of time.”

Craig Morgan’s military experience alone is more than most people accomplish in an entire lifetime. He trained at ROK Ranger School in Korea, a course so rigorous that Americans are no longer allowed to take it; he is air assault qualified, a rappel master, and a jump master and has helped train elite combat units. Craig was part of Operation Just Cause, which saw the U.S. in Panama during the ousting of Manuel Noriega.

Reflecting on his military experience, Morgan says, “I missed home very, very much. That was the toughest thing about the early days. Still, it wasn’t until I joined the military that I realize just who I was and who I was about, and how much I liked being what I was, which was country.”

It was during his military career that Craig discovered the true musician inside himself. He began writing songs and performing for his fellow soldiers. While in Korea he opened a show for Sawyer Brown. Craig developed quite a reputation as a singer and was named U. S. Army Male Vocalist of the Year.

Recognizing his talent, Craig’s father took him into the studio to record demos of some songs he had written. Upon completion of his enlistment, he decide dot pursue a career in music. Initially, Craig was hired to sing demos for other writers and publishing companies in Nashville. Craig supported his family by working as a sheriff’s deputy, a plainclothes department store security officer, a construction worker, and a Wal-mart employee. He also spent eight months on stage at the Country Tonight Theater in the tourist Mecca of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, honing his energetic stage show.

Now music is not only a full-time passion, but a full-time occupation as well. Craig is a staff writer for Sony/ATV Tree Publishing in Nashville and writes most of the songs for his albums. He has co-written with some of Music Row’s finest tunesmiths including the legendary Bill Anderson, Dean Dillon, Sharon Vaughn, Harley Allen and Buddy Cannon (who also co-produced Craig’s first album).

Craig is also an amazing performer. “When I’m on state, so is everyone in the audience, because I work to make them feel like they’re right there with me. I’m very emotionally interactive. I have a very active show, and I work my band to death,” he adds with the glee of someone who enjoys pushing those around him to reach their potential with the same zeal that he enforces upon himself.

Add to his lift of accomplishments, a dedicated family man. Craig’s mother introduced him to his wife while he was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. “I fell in love with Karen the instant I met her and we’ve been in love every since.” Craig’s wife and children also share his love of the outdoors. When ther3 is a break in his hectic schedule it[s not unusual for them to be off on an adventure.

Craig Morgan is the all-American boy-next-door. The kid that played ball in your back yard. The young man who volunteered to preserve our freedom. The dedicated family man. The man who is still as country as the land where he was raised—and proud of it. Craig Morgan – adventurous, brave, loving ---Country.
